Another week in the books! And Happy Valentine's Day :)

Even if you aren't spending it with anyone, treat yourself, dammit! Go out and buy yourself some candy or a coffee, or maybe get takeout from your favorite place. We all deserve to do something special for ourselves every once in awhile! Why not use today as an excuse for that?

All that said, I hope you had a great week last week. Even if you didn't, try to find something positive about it and consider what you can do to make this week better.

Latest From Yours Truly

  • Diary of a Crappy Cat Mom
I took a stab at writing a funny :) this is a true story that happened to me a few months ago. I'm sure many other cat parents can relate to delaying the litter box cleaning!
  • The Two Best Friends I Needed to Lose
This is a story I've been meaning to write for a while, I was just waiting for the right time to do it. I knew there was a story to be told, I guess I just wasn't sure how to tell it. I think it turned out pretty good, and my hope is that sharing these two losses will help others with coming to terms over the loss of a good friend, or even a significant other.

Latest on Dark Roast Security

This week I learned a bit about the Network File System protocol (NFS), and how to enumerate and exploit it. Learn more in my challenge walk-through!

While I don't have too much to share from Dark Roast this week, I can assure you there are lots of good things coming! Here are a few you can look forward to:

  • TryHackMe Challenge Walk-Throughs
    • Exploiting SMTP
    • Exploiting MySQL
  • Intro to Python - Part Four
The final part in my four part series of learning the basics of Python coding language. You can find the existing articles here: https://medium.com/dark-roast-security
  • OWASP Top 10 Collection: I'm planning to put together 10 articles, one covering each of the top 10 web appliation vulnerabilities, AKA OWASP. OWASP stands for the Open Web Application Security Project, an organization whose goal is to improve the security of software with a community approach.
Even for my non-tech subscribers, I think you'll find these interesting and I'm planning to write them in a way that anyway can read and digest the material. In my opinion, web application vulnerabilities are ones all Internet users should be aware of, because we all use various web applications every single day.

And finally...a few of my favorite stories I read last week!

That's a wrap! Happy Sunday to all, enjoy your Valentine's Day, and have a great week!

Happy Weekend! What a whirlwind of a week it's been. To start, I got my second dose of the COVID vaccine on Tuesday. I did my best to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate but it still took me out for a day or two. I felt really run down, had chills for a short period of time, and some mild body aches. However, I woke up on Thursday feeling back to my normal self! Speaking of Thursday, I received AWESOME news while I was mid-workout on my lunch break. In between round two of my three-round circuit, I...

Hi friends! It's been a minute...sorry for the newsletter hiatus. Life got really busy, but I'm back now and with lots of news to share! First off, let me start by welcoming my new subscribers. Thanks so much for subscribing and I hope to provide consistent content going forward as I have clearly failed you over the last six weeks! With that, I have lots to share this week so apologies in advance for the lengthy email but I'll make this as short and sweet as possible. As a first order of...

Happy Spring! Yesterday was officially the first day of spring. Oh, happy day. I spent the morning dusting off my patio furniture and swapping out my winter wreath for my spring one. It's currently sunny and 65 degrees, and I'm writing this from my deck. Pretty damn good Sunday afternoon if you ask me. Anyway, some good stuff happened last week! If you're a Dark Roast reader, you may know about my Red Team series of articles called Dark Side. Well this week I kicked off Light Roast, a Blue...
